SONY To Launch VIA-Based Ultraportable Laptops

Sony is now poised to release its new herd of low-cost ultraportable laptops based on the VIA OpenBook design according to PC World. A prototype of this mini-notebook was shown by contract manufacturer Quanta Computer at WiMax Expo in Taipei.

“A check of the laptop’s properties confirmed the laptop is based on a 1.6GHz C7-M processor from Via and listed Sony as the manufacturer,” PC World says.

SONY To Launch VIA-Based Ultraportable Laptops

VIA’s OpenBook reference design features these specifications:

  • 8.9-inch display
  • VIA C7-M ULV processor
  • VX800 digital media IGP chipset

The VIA OpenBook weighs around 2.2 pounds (1kg) and runs Windows Vista, XP, or Linux operating system.
