Methanol-powered cellphones…
…will be available by 2007 and they will be produced by NTT DoCoMo Inc. — a mobile communications company in Japan. It was said that methanol-powered cellphones last three to four times longer than lithium-ion batteries. Amazing, isn’t it?. Looks like we will now be spared from the annoying chore of frequently recharging our phones when this technology comes out.
Actually, the need to prolong the number of cellphone usage emerged when this so-called “one seg” service came out. This new service is used to view digital TV broadcasts on mobile devices such as cellphones and car navigation systems. Since all of us need more than two or three hours to watch TV, lithium-ion batteries would NOT stand up to the challenge. The solution: insert an 18-millimeter cartidge of methanol in a fuel cell, attach it to your cellphone, and you’re good to go.
So far, this one-seg service is not apparent here in the country at present. We are still caught up with the 3G thing. Oh well, I guess anytime next year, this one-seg service and methanol thingy will tear down the lithium-ion-battery standard we are employing at present.
Meanwhile, let’s take a look at one of the Nokia N-Series phones: Nokia N71. I wasn’t able to see it, but my friend told me that the PBB Teen Big Four has just been given a lovely Nokia N71 last night. Wow! This phone is intended to provide a decent music support through excellent music playback. It has a 5-band equalizer, an FM tuner, and support for MP3, AAC, eAAC+, and WMA formats.
