Watch out for YM Worm

Instant messaging is truly a helpful tool that enables us to talk to our friends who are situated miles away, in real-time. We have MSN Messenger, Google Talk, AOL IM, and probably the most famous among them all, Yahoo! Messenger. Nah, that is not a well-researched claim, though. I just said that because YM is what I and my friends are actually using ever since. Eventhough Skype is already here, it seems that we can’t get our hands off YM as of the moment.

Anyway, too bad for YM users, a certain worm dubbed as Yhoo32.eplr is said to be running through Yahoo’s insant messaging network and is tormenting users by leading them to adware and spyware sites, and by producing migraine-inducing music. Read complete story here.

It is imperative that any malicious link that is embedded within an instant message must be avoided because that is how the worm is triggered. Never trust any forwarded message! Especially if that message contains something like ”please help..i asked Yahoo! and AOL to give me one cent every time you forward this message to somebody”…or something to that effect.

That sort of thing somehow irritates me, you know.
