Got a Clue

Guest post from: Steve Delaney

I realized not too long ago that I’ve got the Power to Choose Seabrook electricity providers and that prompted me to review all my other utilities and see where I could be saving money. I felt like I was just bleeding funds that I didn’t need to be and ever since then I’ve been on the hunt to cut my costs where I can. I know it doesn’t sound like a big deal but saving $20 a month can mean a big difference if I find a few places to do it – that’s a vacation or all of my hair cut costs for a year! Anyway, it’s become sort of a game for me to find new ways to save money around the house. My husband thinks I’ve lost it but I think he DOES enjoy all the extra dough in the savings account each month. I just can’t imagine why we were throwing away money for so long but I feel better now that we’re on top of our finances.

TV Break

Guest post by Jewel Cole

Call me a bad parent but sometimes I just have to use my direct tv loveland to get a break. My kids are not allowed to watch a lot of television. I try to make sure they spend their free time playing outside when the weather is nice or playing with their toys when the weather is not. Not that they even have that much free time with school, homework, sports and extracurricular activities. However, every once in a while there is that odd afternoon or evening when nothing will hold their attention. It’s too hot outside, the toys are all boring and their siblings just get on their nerves. I can only do so much to entertain and come dinner time I need for them to be distracted and not under foot. That’s when I take advantage of stations like TVLand where I can normally find something that isn’t too hokey for their taste nor too offensive for their age or me. Hopefully it isn’t too bad for their little brains to watch a little television. After all it IS good for my sanity!

Moving Time!

Thanks for the article from Laura Ryan

Moving is something that I’ve actually found fun and I should hope so since I’ve moved 7 times in the past 10 years! I finally found the place though that I think is the place I’m going to stay because it’s the perfect size and it’s decorated to a T since I bought it as a model home. I went online to look up Directtv in bloomington in to find out more about the cable options and I am thinking about calling someone on Monday to find out about a security system. I love having my own place and not having roommates and even in this terrible market I’ve made a pretty penny buying a new place every year or so. I love having guests but I’m even happier when they leave because honestly, I just like my space, is that so wrong? Check back with me in a year and see if I’ve got the moving bugagain – I would say chances are fifty fifty that I’ll have changed my mind about it by then!

Safe Neighborhood

Contributed by Milford Woods

My neighborhood is usually pretty safe, but I wanted to make sure our house was fully protected since this is Tim’s first summer staying at home by himself. He’s a great kid but I figured, why put him in any more danger than he has to be? I talked to the people at http://AtlantaHomeSecurity.com about an appropriate alarm system and I’ve also spoken with Tim really extensively about what to do in the case of an emergency, exactly who to open the door for and when he is allowed to leave the house. It’s going to be a really trying summer for my nerves, I’m sure, but this is definitely the next step in Tim becoming more of an independent young man, and my husband and I have discussed it extensively. Who knows what will happen by the end of the summer but for now, Tim seems excited about the whole situation and so are we – ask me again how I feel about it all in two months!

On Wireless Headphones and Electronic Gadgets

My friend has trouble with his newly bought set of headphones because it didn’t really live up to its promise which is absolute noise-cancelling feature. So he asked me if buying one of clarion wireless headphones is a good idea.

Well, I am not really an expert in headphones or in any gadget for that matter, but purchasing one or even choosing to buy one really boils down to preference. Much like deciding to buy a motion activated camera or a nikon telephoto lens, deciding to purchase eletronic devices should be done based on personal taste and the reviews that can found on the internet abudantly. More commonly known as expert advice and consumer takes.

I told him to get to know more of the products that you want to buy by really doing an intensive research about it online so that you will get to see the pros and cons of spending money on such a device. If you think that the reviews are quite good and the price is also reasonable, then that product is worth spending money for, regardless if it is a wireless headphone or a hi tech camera.

How To Replace A DVD Drive In Your Laptop

Replacing a DVD drive in a laptop is very simple. Even if you don’t have a lot of technical expertise this is something that you can do. There are no screws involved or opening up of the computer case. This is because most laptops all use modular drives that pop right out. A DVD burner is the drive that allows you to write data or video/audio files on a DVD disk. The amount of information that can be written to a DVD is typically 4.7 GB.

However, double-layer DVD burners can write up to 8.5 GB of data on a disk. Devices with a LightScribe-enabled optical drive allow you to burn DVD labels as well. An installation of a new DVD burner on your laptop may be required due to the failure of the original hardware or as an upgrade from a CD/DVD-ROM (read only) drive. Get a replacement from the manufacturer.
